Speaker:  Jennifer McNamara CPC, CCS, CPMA, CRC, CGSC, COPC, AAPC Approved Instructor

Jennifer serves as the Director of Education and Coding for Oncospark. She has 20+ years of proven healthcare revenue cycle experience and effective instruction through Ozark Institute for 1000+ students. She has worked in many specialized areas of Coding including Auditing, Consulting, RCM services, Credentialing and Compliance. Jennifer is the host of the weekly podcast “Life as a Coder” every Wednesday discussing Health Information Management and Tips on work life balance. 

In this session, we will discuss the proper and improper usage of modifiers 24, 25 and 57 and how the global period affects the use of them. We will also review examples of applications and guidelines from different insurance carriers such as CMS.   

Everyday Mental Health Coding  10:30-11:30 am

Speaker: Trunella Williams, MA, SST  Trunella, “Trudy”,  is currently the Director of Authorization and Utilization Management with Team Wellness Center.  Team Wellness Center is an Integrated Behavioral & Physical Health Community Organization, located in the Detroit Metropolitan Area.  Trudy has been assisted in Team Wellness Centers partnership with several entities including Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Department of Corrections Parole and Probation and Correctional Facilities as well as the Detroit Police Department. Trudy’s professional roles includes being a trainer for the National Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration Permanent Supportive Housing Program as well as a Fidelity Reviewer for the State of Michigan regarding the Individualized Placements and Supports Program Evidenced Based Model.  Trudy holds a Master of Arts degree in Organizational Management with focus in Mental Health.

In this session, we will cover codes allowed in behavioral/mental health.  We will answer the following questions: Do assessments impact service delivery? What are UM guidelines? Can you request additional units for service delivery and if so, how? What are prior authorizations? What is medical necessity of services? Can you bill for group service delivery?

A Detailed and Nuanced Understanding of HIPAA 12:00 – 1:00 pm

Speaker:  Roger Shindell, M.S., CHPS, CISA, CIPM Roger is the CEO and co-founder of Carosh Compliance Solutions, a training and consulting firm that helps small- and mid-sized healthcare practices and their business associates achieve compliance with HIPAA and other privacy and security regulations.  Roger is a former member of AHIMA’s Privacy and Security Practice Council, the past chair of the HIMSS Risk Assessment Work Group and a former board member of Indiana HIMSS. As an author Roger writes popular columns for numerous industry journals and is an active member of the editorial advisory board of HMP Communications’ Today’s Wound Clinic. He also served as a columnist and member of the editorial board for HCPro’s Briefings on HIPAA. He speaks regularly at industry and association conferences, including the National Association of Occupational Therapy, state chapters of the Health Information Management Systems Society and the Medical Group Management Association, and Cambridge Healthtech Institute, among others.

The objective of this program is to understand the nuanced specific requirements of HIPAA as it pertains to you as a business associate.  Understand both the internal and external safeguards you need to be aware of and learn how HIPAA compliance programs can enhance both your reputation and revenue.
