E/M Fine Points

SPEAKER: Julie Hardy MSA, RHIA, CCS-P, CCS   Physician Services Lead Consultant

Julie has spent her entire career working on the physician side of the world including coding, education and revenue cycle. Through this experience, she’s worked through some challenging documentation and coding scenarios that she’ll share with attendees. Balancing compliance with appropriate reimbursement, Julie has worked with many specialties in multiple settings. She’s credentialed through AHIMA as an RHIA, CCS-P and CCS and has a master’s degree in health administration from Central Michigan University.

E/M can be a tricky road with lots of twists and turns.  Make sure you are equipped with the tools needed to navigate the correct path.

Julie will review the details that make E/M so difficult (grey areas) and help us to understand the “why” behind E/M selection.  CMS and WPS have made it clear that medical necessity is the driving force behind E/M selection.  Gaining an understanding of clinical documentation and how the elements create that medical necessity is vital in E/M code selection.  Focus on the fine points gives us the tools to successfully code the most difficult E/M cases.

Coding Roundtable

Speakers:  East Chapter Co-Chairs as mediators

Each coder/biller will bring at least two de-identified difficult claims to review with the mediators in small groups.  After the claims are reviewed, the most difficult will be reviewed with the group as a whole and each person will participate in the correct code assignment.

***Join us for the meeting and also discuss outstanding issues with the team from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.  They will be onsite during the meeting for questions, concerns, and issues.  Please take advantage of this one on one time with the representatives! ***
