Changes to Split Shared Billing - 1 CEU

Join MMBA and Jill Young, CPC, CEDC, CIMC as she dives into the intricacies of Split Shared services in the medical coding and billing field.
CMS/Medicare and CPT have been in different places with their definition of "substantive portion" for a split shared visit. It was anticipated that in 2024 CMS/Medicare would again have a different way of looking at which provider can bill this type of joint service when done in a facility setting. The PFS Final rule surprised many as CMS/Medicare said they would be following the new clarified policy set forth in CPT's 2024 code book. What are these new definitions of "substantive portion" and what does it mean for your NPs and PAs working in the hospital and other facility-based locations? Also, information WPS recently shared on a webinar defined some of the elements for incident-to services that you need to know about!
POST WEBINAR NOTE FROM MMBA:
During the June 13, 2024, presentation by WPS Medicare, specific information was shared about determining which provider was performing the substantive portion of a Split or Shared visit. On June 20, 2024, WPS Medicare sent an email informing that the presentation was being taken down from its educational resources and that guidance from the newly released CMS Transmittal #12604 (May 3, 2024) should be followed. The exact language read:
“Thank you for your attendance at our presentation on Medicare Split (Shared) Guidelines. We are removing the Encore of this presentation from our website and our YouTube channel. CMS is updating the CMS Internet-Only Manual (IOM), Publication 100-04, Medicare Claims Processing Manual, Chapter 12, Physicians/Non-Physician Practitioners Section 30.6.18 in August with Change Request 13592. CMS refers readers to the information in the CPT to assist in determining the billing provider when using medical decision-making to choose the level of service and the billing provider. The information I provided during this presentation was more limited that what CPT allows and what CMS is now referencing. CMS published a MLN13592 where you can also find additional information.”
The information in the MMBA presentation I recorded on June 11th, provided information based on CPT policy. It did not include any of the information presented by WPS Medicare on Split Shared visits that was rescinded. Therefore, it should be current and correct based on what we know today, June 30, 2024.

ICD-10-CM: Common Coding Errors Found During Audits/Coder Quality Reviews - 1.5 CEU

During this recorded presentation we will review common coding errors found during coding compliance reviews, payor reviews, risk adjustment reviews and coder quality reviews.
Some of the common errors include:
• correctly applying the ICD-10 "with/in" guideline and the "and" guideline
• correctly coding combination codes for diabetes, heart failure, renal failure and hypertension
• identifying the correct trimester in pregnancy coding
• stroke sequela coding.
We will also look at free coding resources available to help apply coding rules correctly.
