SOUTHEAST CHAPTER OFFICER

Lisa Brown, CPC L Brown

My medical industry journey began when I returned to school and obtained an Associates of Applied Science in Medical Assisting at Macomb Community College.

Although I enjoyed my learning experience, I found my passion in procedures, processes, and billing thus found myself focusing on the administrative end of the program. Upon my program completion, I chose to move to the administrative side of the medical field. My experience in MCCs MA program was an excellent beginning for my career as it provided a more comprehensive education of anatomy and physiology, along with medical office procedures, that would have been obtained from a traditional billing program.

I began working for a DO who specialized in Women’s Health. My position soon shifted to her biller/office supervisor and I was hooked!

Since then my employment has included billing and managing/supervising various offices consisting of physical therapy, OB/GYN, Internal Medicine, Laboratory, Diagnostics along with a billing service. I have been a minion, supervisor, CBO Manager, RCM along with contracting and credentialing which has made me a very well rounded individual.

In 2013, I obtained my CPC and am an active member of the AAPC, Macomb Chapter.

My current employment is with an Internal Medicine practice in Sterling Heights. The practice has two physicians and three nurse practitioners. My responsibilities include the entire revenue cycle along with contracting and credentialing. Our practitioners provide services in the office along with Hospital, Home Visits, and Ultrasounds. As we participate with most payors, I consider myself well versed.
